Can My Emotions be making me sick or even be contributing to my weight problems?
What causes dis-ease? There can be many causes. One of the causes can be emotional stress. I'm sure you have had a stressful encounter at some point in your life. I observed a phone call one day with a friend of mine. Before the phone call, she was laughing and joking around with everyone. I watched her whole physiology change during the phone call. All of sudden, her knees went weak, she started to cry and she was having a hard time breathing. Something bad had happened to her daughter and she was physically responding to the emotional stress from the situation. Now that is a dramatic example of emotional stress-trauma but emotional stress can affect your health in many ways. Even the American Medical Association recognizes that stress can cause heart attacks. If you talk to a psychiatrist they will tell you that emotions are physiologically based. That means that emotions affect your physical being. For example; certain organs seem to be affected by emotions differently. The liver has a tendency to be affected by the emotions of anger, bitterness and resentment. Have you ever been so angry that you developed a fever? The liver has a lot to do with fevers. Have you ever heard the phrase "I was so afraid that I wet my pants"? The emotion of fear affects the kidneys and bladder and extreme fear can cause you to lose bladder control. Our bodies can hold onto these past traumas, they are called Neuro-emotional complexes (NEC'S). These NEC'S can cause us to sabotage our relationships with others, our life long goals and even our weight loss goals.
*Our bodies are like a tape recorder, we hold onto every emotional experience that we have ever had. That is one reason why a certain song can bring you back in time to a specific situation or place. When you hear that particular song, it is as if you can relive that experience or situation all over again. Have you ever told someone about a disagreement or a trauma that you have had with another person? Do you feel all of those old feelings of anger or fear come back as you tell the story? This means that the NEC is still affecting you and causing stress to your body. Sometimes you want to be able to forgive that person and move on but there is still something there causing you to hold onto that grudge, anger, resentment etc....Our body holds onto these Neuro-Emotional Complexes (NEC'S) the emotional traumas in our life. This is normal for everyone. The problem is when these emotional traumas start to affect your health. You are probably wondering, how do I know if emotions are a trigger to my health issues? Here are some common health issues that can be triggered by emotions: Weight issues, back pain, neck pain, (any kind of pain), digestive problems, allergies, cancer, and just about any health problem can have an underlying emotional component to it. When I am working with a patient, I like to check all aspects that might be triggering their health issues. I have found that it is important to work with the patient as a whole in order to get the best results.
*You are probably wondering "well how do you get rid of these NEC'S"? There are several emotional stress release techniques that I use to do this. Since the nervous system holds onto these emotional triggers then I work with the nervous system to help release them so they aren't causing constant underlying sabotage to you and your health. I have had so many patients tell me that they had gone through years of counseling and learned more in one 15 minute session than all of the years of counseling. Not only did they learn more, but they got answers to the cause of their stress and more importantly, they got relief. They walk out of the office a new person! It is amazing to see. These types of results are what make my job so fulfilling. I get so excited when I can help a patient feel better and get rid of the emotional baggage that is holding them back in life.
Yours in the BEST of Health and Happiness.
